Knowing about the latest photography products and all of the technical jargon is NOT as important to me as understanding how I can get the most out of my gear. Reliability and quality are the two most important factors when I’m in the market for photography equipment. Above all, it’s crucial that my gear works properly throughout a wedding day, which is I was I use the following equipment.
Camera Body:
Sony a7 IV (Primary Camera)
Sony a7 III (Secondary Camera)
It should go without saying, but I always bring my backup camera to each photo session and wedding day.
Lenses:
Sony 50mm f/1.2 (Prime) - Great for intimate portraits, details and group shots.
Sigma 70mm f/2.8 (Macro Prime) - Best for ring and jewelry shots.
Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 (Telephoto Zoom) - Best for capturing candid moments from afar.
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 (Medium Zoom) - Best all around event lens. Can be used for everything.
Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 (Wide Zoom) - Best for capturing large spaces and for dramatic portraits.
As you can see, I have a lens for most scenarios. Some lenses perform much better than others, but overall, each lens has been reliable for me. Owning strictly Sony lenses would be a dream, as they have an impressive variety of fast and sharp lenses, but they are expensive. Tamron and Sigma are two brands that I can vouch for when it comes to affordability, durability and reliability. Understanding how to further use the equipment I currently have and continuing to educate myself in post-production has made more of an impact on my skillset than buying the latest high-end lens. Gear will not make one a better photographer — practice will.

The topic of flashes is filled with an endless amount of technical information, so I will keep it short and sweet. I use the Godox TT685S primarily as an on camera flash. This flash matched with a MagMod diffuser is perfect for capturing reception events that are traditionally held in ballrooms or dim churches that allow flash photography. Moreover, the Godox AD200 is my go-to flash for off-camera flash photography. The flash itself is lightweight, yet powerful (see below).
